Cathy Stone is an active freelance trombonist in and around Toronto, ON. She is a founding member of the Trillium Brass Quintet and has performed with such ensembles as Sinfonia Toronto, Orchestra London Canada, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, National Ballet Orchestra, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, and Talisker Players. From 1995-2001 Cathy held a tenured position with the Albany Symphony Orchestra in Albany, NY. While in Albany, she participated in numerous recordings of orchestral works by American composers including Morton Gould, John Harbison, Roy Harris and Kamran Ince. She maintains a busy studio of low brass students and is on the faculty of the National Music Camp of Canada.

Cathy was born and raised in Saskatchewan, and received her Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Saskatchewan where she studied trombone with Dawn McLean and piano with Bonnie Nicholson. She then received a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto studying with Gordon Sweeney. Cathy’s other teachers have included Richard Erb, during her summers with NYO, and Alain Trudel, as a participant in the Musicians at Large program at the Banff Centre for the Arts.
